the meeting
on the home page, i realised something simple and uncomfortable:
my name is just a label people use to identify me, or simply to call me.
it is not a definition of who i am.
i decided to introduce myself, and then realised i don’t actually know who i am.
this is a very existential problem to run into on a personal website.
i am a software developer (working as a consultant).
i am a father.
i am a husband.
i am a son.
i am a brother.
i am a friend.
all of these are true, and yet none of them feel close to defining who i really am.
they are roles. useful ones. necessary ones.
but still just labels.
so maybe i am just a person trying to find himself.
like you?
if that’s the case, what makes me different from anyone else?
or should i even be different?
what are my unique (selling) points?
what are my values?
my goals?
my fears?
what am i good at?
what am i bad at?
what do i care about?
what do i avoid?
what are my passions, interests, hobbies, dreams, aspirations?
at this point, the page title probably shouldn’t be the meeting.
this feels less like a meeting and more like being distracted mid-sentence.
i am a distracted person.
but i’m not going to give up.
i’ll share my thoughts and experiences here.
not to define myself, but to observe myself.
maybe, over time, it will become clearer who i am.
or at least who i was while writing this.
- note to self: i need a better way—maybe a tool, maybe a ux decision—to express sarcasm and the way my brain actually works.
- “selling” was one attempt.
